Holidays are looking like a bit of a no go this year, but I think we can all agree that a little break and TLC is needed. Although I wont be jetting off anywhere soon I still want to take some time to relax, and make effort to do things that spark joy from near home. Whether it’s little things or a whole long weekend, there’s so much you can do. To be honest, not much beats the excitement, weather and food you get from being abroad, but hopefully these are a few things that come close.
Give yourself a few days off to relax, and spend it doing fun things you love at home. It will feel like a holiday without all the hassle of one.
If you’re still looking to get away for a few days or just have a day trip out, I’ve composed a small list of small amazing places in the UK that you HAVE to visit. I’m desperate to get away a visit a few and I think a trip to the seaside is defintietly on top of my list.
- Lake District
aka, the dreamiest evenings
I’ve recently become very appreciate of the simple things and watching sunsets is one of those things I’ve really been enjoying. It’s something we all seem to do when we are away in say Greece or Italy but yet at home we never appreciate them. There’s something about sunsets that’s so effortlessly beautiful and peaceful, they really give any moment that special feel. Something that deserve more of the attention than they get. Go watch a sunset you won’t be disappointing. I decided to make an evening out of one and take some pizzas and a few ciders for a picnic with my boyfriend. The perfect easy date night, all from a short journey from home. I would say I actually preffered this than going out for dinner. Sunset watching is definitely something I’ll be doing more often alongside watching sunrises. Yes the early mornings may be a killer, but it is completely worth it. Not long ago I headed to the beach to watch the sunrise and it was truly such a magic moment. I’m already thinking of other locations I can visit!
Visit a Local Beach
Sea air is just something else, so refreshing and the perfect way to escape reality for a bit. You can’t beat a day filled with sun, sand, ice cream and chips! Get together with a few friends and all head down to the beach. Last week I headed down to Brighton with a few friends and it was so nice to get away from London and have a change of scenery.
Explore a new area
There are so many places close to you that you probably haven’t visited. Take a browse on google and see what you can find, you never know you might find a new hidden gem. At home we tend to stick to what we know and don’t really explore our own local area. I recently came across a lovely lake near me that I had no idea existed. Now regretting I never found it before! I definitely want to explore more of whats around me, even a couple of hours away there is so much in the UK that I haven’t seen. So if you have any recommendations let me know!
Get a projector and have an outdoor cinema night
Put on a cheesy movie on, grab some blankets and have an outdoor cinema from your own home I did this at home last summer with my family and we absolutely loved it. We watched Bohemiam Rapsody, and enjoyed singing along to the songs. I will deifnltey have to do it again with Mamma Mia, because you can’t beat ABBA. My birthday is coming up soon and you’ll be seeing me with my own backyard cinema! Make sure you get some snacks, I’m quite extra so I actually made pop corn boxes which were so cute. I can’t wait to do it all over again soon.
Have a Picnic
Picnics have honestly become my new obsession. I’m having them all the time, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I love making boujee ass picnics and spending a few hours in the middle of no where relaxing and eating. My go to picnic food at the moment is strawberries, pastries and small little nibbles! A few drinks never go a miss either!
Spend a night in making cocktails.
Grab a whole load of ingredients and a cocktail shaker and give making cocktails your best go. Have some fun messing around trying countless recipes. Personal favourites are a classic pornstar martini and mojito, a special mention to woo woo which is one of the easiest cocktails, but trust me a little deadly…. Who cares if you aren’t very good at making them, I’m sure once you’re a few in they’ll taste alright anyway.
Let me know what what you’ve been doing to have your staycation at home!
