Learning to love yourself

Developing self confidence is always so hard. Loving yourself is nearly impossible when you know all your greatest flaws. I’m not where I want to be, but it’s a journey you don’t just wake up in the morning full of confidence. Here are little things I’ve been doing to develop my confidence.

Recently I’ve started giving myself at least one compliment a day. I know that seems a little odd but how many times do you look in the mirror and say I hate the way this and that looks compared to looking in the mirror and saying I actually look good. One compliment a day can make yourself feel so much better, it makes you focus on the positives rather than tear yourself down with the negatives. If someone else said the things you say to yourself you would feel horrible. So why do it to yourself?

Wear the makeup you want to, the outfit you love or even go out and treat yourself. Doing these simple things that make you feel good and immediacy lift your confidence. I often wear things that make me feel great we all have that certain thing that we think we look great in. There’s no point wearing an outfit that makes you complain about the way you look. Grab your favourite clothes and go out and show everyone how good you look and feel!

Do something that makes you happy, creating your own happiness rather than relying on others is key to developing your own self confidence. Getting use to your own company is a little tough, I’m often bored of myself and struggle with my time alone. Recently I’ve made more use out of it, that could be doing things by yourself, getting down with some work or even treating yourself to an relaxing weekend.

Learning to love yourself isn’t just about your appearance, it’s about learning to love what your doing in life and who you are. If you aren’t doing something you enjoy then chances are your going to become more negative. I know that sometimes you cant always love your job etc, but make sure you set some time aside for you. Do things that you want to do and chances are you feel better about yourself.

As I said in my post Need to Achieve, setting goals are so important. Achieving something can make your confidence grow and grow. Knowing that you can do something is the best feeling ever. When I do well I honestly feel so much better about myself and begin to develop that I can attitude.

Surround yourself with positive uplifting people. The people you associate with will always rub off onto you, so make sure you choose wisely. Find friends that help you grow with confidence and make sure you do the same to them. Friendship is all about supporting each other. Positivity will create happiness and allow you to grow happiness surrounding yourself.

  2. I needed to read this right now. I’m not in a good place right now regarding my physical appearance – I feel fat and ugly and I know rationally I need to love myself more, but I can’t help criticizing myself.

    1. It’s always a hard thing to do, and it won’t happen over night. Just start looking at your positives or wear things that make you feel good!! Hope you feel better soon x
